In prep school my brother and I created an independent study on Native American beading and leather crafting. We were always fascinated with the artwork and craft of Native American cultures and were really lucky to have the opportunity to explore it through our “coursework”. I love bringing this kind of heritage into my wardrobe, especially when I am able to create it and make part of it my own. In a way it’s reminiscent of Ralph Lauren’s Indian Pointe collection which was inspired by a trip to the Adirondacks. Though most of what we learned to make that semester is intensely time consuming (or incredibly noisy, carving a leather belt with a mallet isn’t the quietest hobby), I still manage to whip something up from time to time.
